If your computer is running slowly or showing "low disk space" warnings, these steps will help. These instructions are for Windows 10 computers.
STEP 1 – Remove programmes you no longer use
Old programmes take up space even when you are not using them.
1. Click the Start button (bottom-left of your screen)
2. Click Settings (the cog icon), then Apps
3. Choose "Sort by size" to see the biggest programmes first
4. Click any programme you no longer use and select "Uninstall"
STEP 2 – Tidy your Desktop
Files stored directly on your Desktop take up memory. Move files you want to keep into the Documents, Photos, or Videos folders. Delete anything you no longer need.
STEP 3 – Run Disk Cleanup
1. Click the Start button and type "Disk Cleanup" in the search box
2. Click the result that appears
3. Select Drive C and click OK
4. Wait for the scan to finish, then click OK to delete the suggested files
STEP 4 – Clear your Downloads folder
Open your Downloads folder (usually found in File Explorer on the left sidebar). Keep important files and delete the rest.
STEP 5 – Empty the Recycle Bin
Right-click the Recycle Bin icon on your Desktop and select "Empty Recycle Bin." This permanently removes files you have already deleted.
